PURPOSE

A short competency course in occupational screening audiometry as aligned to SAQA Unit Standard 252126 is now available through the Eduplex Training Institute.

MODULES

Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to perform all requirements set out by the Unit Standard for performing an audiometric screening and have an acceptable understanding of:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the ear and hearing
  • How sound works
  • Noise
  • Different types of audiometric tests
  • Hearing Conservation
  • How to conduct, interpret, record and report an audiometric screening test

MINIMUM PRIOR LEARNING REQUIREMENTS

Matric Certificate with Mathematical Literacy and Computer Literacy

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Access to a computer and internet for downloading theoretical material

Who should apply?

The course is intended for individuals who will be responsible for the monitoring of employees working in high noise zones for possible noise-induced hearing loss. Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to perform all requirements as set out by the Unit Standard for performing an audiometric screening.

How  long will I study?

Individuals who enrol will be required to do self-study (approximately 5 hours) prior to a three-day practical workshop in Pretoria, South Africa, where lunch & refreshments will be provided. Upon completion of a Portfolio of Evidence (approximately 3-6 months) a certificate of completion will be issued after which students can register at the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing  (SASOHN) to commence their work as an Audiometrist. A refresher course is required every two years.

SASOHN registration:

After completing the programme you will be required to register yourself at SASOHN to be placed on the roll of Audiometrists. There is a payment of approximately R300.00 applicable at registration. We will provide you with the appropriate documentation to do this.
