FAQ

Who should apply?

The course is intended for individuals who will be responsible for the monitoring of employees working in noise zones and who are at risk of developing noise-induced hearing loss. Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to perform all requirements as set out by the Unit Standard for performing an audiometric screening test.

How long will I study?

Individuals who enrol will be required to do approximately 10 hours of self-study before a three-day practical workshop in Pretoria or Cape Town, South Africa, where lunch & refreshments will be provided.

Upon completing the three-day practical workshop, each student will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence (PoE) within 4 weeks. The PoE consists of conducting, evaluating, and reporting on five audiometric screenings (2 x baseline/entry level audiograms, 2 x periodic audiograms, 1 x exit audiogram). The PoE will take approximately 10 hours to complete.  After your PoE has been marked and you have received feedback with recommendations, you will have another two weeks to resubmit the final copy of your PoE.

A certificate of competence will be issued, provided that students have completed all modules successfully. After receiving the certificate, students can apply for registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (SASOHN).

How much does it cost?

R6,850.00 per person

*Please note, travel and accommodation arrangements for the three-day practical workshop are for each student’s own account

SASOHN registration:

After completing the programme, you will be required to register yourself at SASOHN to be placed on the roll of Audiometrists. A payment of approximately R350 is applicable at registration.
