To equip persons in acquiring adequate understanding and practical skills pertaining to the maintenance, cleaning and troubleshooting of earmoulds and hearing aids through a two-day practical workshop.

ADMISSIONS

Ideal candidates are persons working in audiology practices as receptionists or front desk staff. This course is also suitable for new audiologists seeking improved skills in cleaning and maintenance of earmoulds and hearing aids.

Application requirements:

  • Access to a laptop (including webcam and microphone) with high-speed internet.
  • Access to an audiology practice in order to complete a portfolio of evidence.
  • The programme is offered in English and candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and through writing.

COURSE STRUCTURE & DELIVERY

The course consists of theoretical and practical modules. Students will need to do pre-reading before attending the practical workshop. The course, however, focuses more on the practical applications of the theoretical knowledge.

Assessments primarily focus on the application of knowledge and practical skills. To receive a certificate of completion, a theoretical and practical examination, along with a portfolio of evidence, must be completed successfully.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE & DURATION

Individuals who enrol will be required to do approximately 5 hours of self-study before the two-day practical workshop in Pretoria or Cape Town, South Africa.

The pre-reading material will be available online two weeks before the practical workshop. After the conclusion of the practical workshop, students must complete and submit a portfolio of evidence within one month. A certificate of completion will be issued once all relevant learning activities are completed successfully.

PROGRAMME FEES

Programme fees are due at registration and include all learning material and practical workshop sessions (including refreshments and lunch).

Laptop, any associated data costs as well as travel and accommodation (in reference to the practical workshop) are excluded.

What will I learn?

Practical skills in cleaning, maintenance and troubleshooting of hearing aids. It also includes retubing and modifying of earmoulds, exchanging filters, doing listening checks on hearing aids and managing Bluetooth connectivity and device pairing.
